NDIS UPDATES
Approved NDIS Supports and Funding Flexibility
As of Monday, 19 May 2025, the NDIS introduced a new way of managing funding to make budgeting simpler and more flexible for participants.
What Changed?
Shorter Funding Periods: New reassessed PACE plans now feature shorter funding periods—often around three months (although funding periods are at the discretion of the NDIA planner)—designed to make budget tracking and spending easier and reduce the risk of over-utilisation and fraud.
Total Funding Remains the Same: The total amount of funding in your plan hasn’t changed—just how it's released over time.
Applies to New or Reassessed Plans Only: These updates apply only to PACE plans that started or were reassessed on or after 19 May 2025.
The Good ✅
Some participants and providers found it challenging to work with a 12-month total budget. By introducing shorter funding periods, the NDIS aims to ensure participants have continuous access to the support they need, avoid over-utilisation, and reduce incidents of fraud.
The Bad 🚫
Less flexibility and less choice and control over how and when funds are spent to purchase supports. This change means it has become more difficult to use supports ‘intensively’ (e.g. at the beginning or end of the plan for assessments, setting up services and preparing for plan reassessment) as funding is evenly distributed across the funding periods.
Pro tip: At the NDIS planning meeting, request the NDIA planner to fund core in 3 monthly periods (not monthly where possible) to increase flexibility and request funding for capacity building supports like support coordination, therapy, and behaviour support as a flexibly yearly amount to allow for intensive support up front including assessments and setting up of services followed by implementation and monitoring for the rest of the plan.
This gives the best of both worlds ensuring core supports last the entire duration of the plan and capacity building supports maintain their flexibility to deliver intensive periods of support.

Community disability housing program (CDHP)
This week, after five years of being on the waitlist for government housing a family we support have been offered a 3-bedroom home in Perth through the CDHP program!
This is life changing and a huge win for this family who experience financial hardship giving them long-term tenancy security with subsidised rent.
The CDHP program provides access to appropriate and affordable housing (not crisis or emergency accommodation) for people with disabilities. This includes singles, couples, families, and people who need to live with a carer.
CDHP properties are managed by Community Housing Organisations.
To request housing assistance through CDHP, complete a Request For Housing application form
