Solving Problems in NDIS Housing 🏡
Summer Foundation, in partnership with Housing Hub, has launched Solving Problems in NDIS Housing—an online resource designed to support NDIS participants and community members in navigating Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) and shared supports. This initiative is supported by the Support for NDIS Providers Grants Program.
The resource provides clear, accessible information on participant rights, the roles of different stakeholders, and how to provide feedback or raise concerns. It also includes a Roles and Responsibilities Knowledge Builder, a tool designed to enhance understanding of responsibilities within NDIS housing.
To further support participants, Housing Hub is hosting a series of webinars for people with disability, their families, and support workers. These sessions will explore how to use the resource effectively to address challenges in NDIS housing.
Upcoming Webinar:
📅 Date: Monday, 14 April
⏰ Time: 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM AEST
This is a great opportunity to gain valuable insights and practical guidance on navigating SDA and shared supports.

Transitioning to Independence: Anthony’s Next Steps
Anthony has been living in Residential Aged Care following a diagnosis of a rare, incurable brain cancer that resulted in a disability. Initially, he was believed to be approaching end-of-life care, but his condition has since stabilised, and he is now seeking to transition to Supported Independent Living (SIL) closer to his daughter.
The next step in this process is the completion of a Home and Living Assessment by an Occupational Therapist. Once finalised, this assessment will help determine the most suitable living arrangements to support Anthony’s needs.
While awaiting the assessment outcome, Anthony is accessing physiotherapy and participating in social and community activities as part of his NDIS plan. These supports aim to improve his well-being and prepare him for a potential move to a more independent living environment.
His situation highlights the importance of adaptable support planning and the role of assessments in facilitating transitions to more suitable living arrangements.

Therapy Services for Children with Complex Disabilities: A Holistic Approach
Supporting children with complex disabilities requires a unique blend of expertise, creativity, and compassion. Therapy services tailored to these children focus not only on developmental milestones but also on fostering joy, connection, and a sense of belonging. This holistic approach ensures that therapy becomes an enriching part of their lives rather than a rigid obligation.
Therapy That Feels Like Play
A core principle of therapy for children with complex needs is ensuring that it doesn’t feel like therapy at all. The focus is on allowing kids to be kids by embedding therapeutic activities into their natural environments—whether at home, in the park, or during playtime with peers. By integrating therapy into everyday life, children learn and grow in ways that feel organic and enjoyable.
For example, instead of structured sessions that mimic school-like settings, therapists might work with families to create opportunities for children to engage in meaningful activities alongside their siblings or friends. This approach not only supports the child’s development but also enhances their quality of life by fostering inclusion and fun.

Supporting Accessible Travel: Qantas Carer Concession Card ✈️
In Jan 2025 the Qantas Carer Concession Card service was expanded for people with disability to have access to the support they need when traveling. Through this service, eligible individuals and their carers can receive discounted fares on domestic Qantas flights. Cards are available through People with Disability Australia (PWDA).
This card is available to people with significant support requirements due to a physical, sensory, intellectual, cognitive, or psychosocial disability that prevents them from travelling without the full-time assistance of a carer.
